Some time searching on the internet shows you that there is a common misconception that the only way to travel in the United Arab Emirates is by renting a car. While renting a car can make your trip more convenient and put you in control of transportation, it is also not the only way to get around the country.

And if you are among the growing number of people realizing the wonderful things the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah has to offer, you may be looking for ways to get to Ras Al Khaimah.

Unfortunately, while the city’s airport is growing and the Emirate’s tourism sector is beginning to boom, its airport only hosts charter flights. Thus, if you want to visit this city and this Emirate, you will have to fly into Dubai and travel overland to Ras Al Khaimah.

Luckily for you, renting a car is not the only way to get there.

The Emirates’ infrastructure has developed rapidly and continues to do so, which links the cities and Emirates further every year.

So, without further ado, if you want to visit Ras Al Khaimah from Dubai, here are three ways you can do it!

Get to Ras Al Khaimah by Bus

The United Arab Emirates has no train network, but that does not mean there is no infrastructure to help you zip around its cities.

The UAE’s bus infrastructure already serves locals well and expands and improves even further with each passing year.

Ras Al Khaimah’s tourist authority has also begun chipping in to improve the bus network to great effect; the bus services have improved tremendously and help ferry visitors between cities with little inconvenience.

Hence, getting to Ras Al Khaimah from Dubai by bus is feasible, efficient, and – important for the budget traveler – cost-effective.

If you are traveling from Dubai’s airport or Dubai Union bus station, there is a service that can get you to the city of Ras Al Khaimah in less than two hours.

If traveling from the airport, you can take the shuttle bus from Dubai airport, which has you in Ras Al Khaimah city center in just 45 mins. To make a reservation, contact the company and prepare for a relaxed ride to your destination at a reasonable price. The shuttle starts running at 6 am at the Dubai airport.

If you are coming from Dubai’s city center, the trip is no less convenient. The intercity bus from Dubai union runs 12 buses to Ras Al Khaimah from Saturday to Friday, and if you need to get back to Dubai – you can buy round-trip bus tickets for less than 20 USD and Euro!

The intercity bus gets you from Dubai Union bus station to the center of Ras Al Khaimah in just an hour and a half. So, if you are on a budget and want to get between these two great Emirate cities, look no further than the bus as your option.

The intercity bus does not just get you from Dubai to Ras Al Khaimah either. Once you are in this northernmost Emirate, the bus can take you between destinations easily.

Getting to Ras Al Khaimah by Cab

While the bus is an especially cheap option, not everybody’s budget is the same, and some travelers are more willing to pay for efficiency.

If that sounds like you, a taxi is a tried-and-true solution you can use to get to Ras Al Khaimah from Dubai.

Taxis run from the city center of Dubai or the airport, just like the buses, and companies such as Arabia Taxi regularly ferry visitors and tourists along this route. If you are traveling from the city, it will take you about an hour to the city of Ras Al Khaimah, where you can base yourself before traveling through the rest of the Emirate.

While the taxi is a faster option than the bus, it does cost more, so this option for getting to Ras Al Khaimah from Dubai is good for travelers with a higher budget but can also be good for small groups, as splitting the bill can make it much easier to afford.

Getting to Ras Al Khaimah by Car

Once again, it is not the only way to get around the United Arab Emirates, but renting a car can get you from Dubai to Ras Al Khaimah quickly and equip you to drive all around this region.

If renting a car is within your budget, this is your best option for not only travel between Ras Al Khaimah and Dubai but between all the Emirates.

With a car, you can be in complete control of how you travel between cities and even stop to see natural or historical landmarks. If you drive straight from Dubai to Ras Al Khaimah, you will be there in less than an hour. But we recommend you try and enjoy the drive, and for good reason.

There are several stops and incredible sights you can enjoy on the way to Ras Al Khaimah, and you can still get there in a matter of hours.

Just north of Dubai, you can stop in the wonderful city of Sharjah and see some of the United Arab Emirates’ most famous cultural landmarks, such as the Blue Souk.

Driving further north, your car will bring you to Ajman, the smallest of the Emirates, but no less impressive.

While buses can take you to both of these interesting cities from Ras Al Khaimah, you can only see both when renting a car on your way to our lovely Emirate.

The potential stops are not the only delight of renting a car and driving to Ras Al Khaimah. The bus and taxi will both allow you to see the Arabian gulf coast on your way, but with a car, you can appreciate this beautiful coast even further as you drive and stop for pictures.
