In the heart of Ras Al Khaimah lies a beautiful and protected stretch of mangroves that line the coastline and culminates in the city. Ras Al Khaimah boasts the rugged cloud-piercing mountains of Jebel Jais, the temperate Arabian Gulf, blissfully beautiful white sandy beaches and flamingo-inhabited mangroves. The mangroves form the juxtaposition between nature and urban living. Corniche Al Qawasim is the most beautiful road in the northernmost Emirate.
The three-kilometre waterfront promenade is lined with luxury apartments, international restaurants, local cafes, access to water activities and a children’s play area. The wide walkway allows for exploring families, walkers, cyclists and joggers. The corniche is named after the Al Qawasim clan, who controlled trade throughout the region in the 18th century.
RAK Eye
The RAK Eye is a grand 37-metre ferris wheel that boasts extraordinary views over the Grand Mosque, the corniche, the lush mangroves and over the city’s skyline to the Arabian Gulf. Each of the comfortable cabins is private and are fully air-conditioned. There is a limited menu that serves a delicious combination of Middle Eastern and Western cuisine.
RAK Flagpole
A mighty flagpole that rises 120 metres above sea level carries the flag of the United Arab Emirates. The flag was first raised by the founding father of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan on 2nd December 1971 to celebrate the formation of the United Arab Emirates as a unified and collaborative country. National Day proudly celebrates the Emirate’s independence each year. Interestingly, the government and private schools raise the flag to the national anthem every morning.
Dining
Corniche Al Qawasim has a fine selection of restaurants and cafes for visitors to experience the best of local, Middle Eastern and international cuisine. You’ll find everything from flamboyant Turkish ice cream makers to serious five star rated chefs along the corniche. Enjoy delicious fast food and takeaway cuisine, and aromatic sheesha lounges. The sheer array of restaurants and café’s will keep you coming back for more. Many of the vendors are from around the world and have carefully nurtured their menus from previous generations.
Lazily wander the corniche and excite all of your senses. Corniche Al Qawasim comes alive at night, so make sure to get there before the sun starts to set and enjoy the gloriously unique offerings that the promenade has to offer.
