Al Rams is one of the oldest coastal settlements in Ras Al Khaimah. Overlooked by the soaring Jebel Jais Mountains and guarded by Dhayah Fort on one side and nestled on the shores of the Arabian Gulf on the other, Al Rams enjoys the peaceful landscape of lush palm groves, natural sand bars and islands.
Al Rams Corniche lies on the northern shores of Ras Al Khaimah and boasts one of the most impressive landscapes in the emirate. The honey-hued mountains proudly rise from the Arabian Gulf to an impressive 1,934 metres above sea level. Nature abounds in Al Rams. Natural sand bars and islands intersperse the sparkling waters. The coastline is home to sprawling mangroves, an ancient fishing village and an abundance of tribal tales.
Wander along the corniche and immerse yourself into the local Tanaij tribal community formed at the beginning of the 19th century. Much of the old village architecture still remains; you’ll find original homes built with acacia wood and coral blocks. There are a few local shops and markets dotted along the main street and a coffee shop that serves strong Qahwa, the traditional Arabic Coffee. On cooler days, you can hike to Dhayah Fort. This castle-like spectacle stands proudly on the crest of the arid mountains amongst the protected fertile date wadis.
The corniche gently meanders along the breathtaking 1.6 km of beach and coastline. Stone spits separate over 20 beaches along this stretch of seaside that weaves its way to Oman. Pay homage to the ancient pearl diving history and explore the bustling fishing community that forms a more traditional city settlement in the shadows of ancient archaeology. The village elders still tell timeworn stories of the unruly Tanaij of Rams and Shihuh tribes and their frequent conflicts with the Rulers of Ras Al Khaimah.
The Al Rams Corniche is considered one of the most beautiful walks in Ras Al Khaimah. It’s worth a trip away from the main town to experience extraordinary sunsets in this unique setting. Instagram buffs will love it here. Step off the corniche and wander along pristine beaches, snorkel in crystalline waters, mosey through shaded date plantations or enjoy peaceful water sports like kayaking and paddleboarding. You can even pitch a tent and spend a night under the stars on the beautiful waters edge.
Al Rams Corniche is in the eponymous northern part of the emirate. There is ample parking along the corniche.
The corniche is open every day, and access is complimentary.
