Visit Ras Al Khaimah

All sorts of myths and legends surround Al Qasimi Palace in Ras Al Khaimah. The palace was built by Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Humaid Al Qasimi almost four decades ago. The breathtaking building has been unoccupied for many years and houses fascinating interiors such as chandeliers, artefacts, and paintings of Islamic, Moroccan, and Persian heritage. This historic landmark in Ras Al Khaimah has only recently opened to the public, but a sense of mystery and intrigue remains. Explore 35 rooms spread over four storeys and the palaceโ€™s expansive grounds.

A Historic Landmark in Ras Al Khaimah

The late Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Humaid Al Qasimi built Al Qassimi Palace on top of a hill in Al Dhait North, Ras Al Khaimah in 1985. Its construction reportedly cost in excess of AED 500 million.

The marble facade, both majestic and imposing, seems to recount stories of lost times. It appears mysterious and slightly eerie, especially in light of the local tales that surround this abandoned palace in Ras Al Khaimah.

Al Qassimi Palace

Al Qassimi Palace Becomes Al Qasr Al Ghamedh

Tareq Ahmad Al Sharhan has breathed new life into Al Qassimi Palace in Ras Al Khaimah. After buying it from the heirs of the late Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Humaid Al Qasimi in 2019, Al Sharhan commissioned the revival of the palaceโ€™s murals, sculptures, tiles, furniture, and gardens.

Today, the palace has been restored to its former glory and is now open to the public. Al Qassimi Palace, Ras Al Khaimah, has a new name, too: Al Qasr Al Ghamedh, โ€œThe Palace of Ambiguity.โ€

Architecture and Interiors

The palace has 35 refurbished rooms adorned with antique furniture and various works of art. The interior is a blend of Islamic, Indian, Moroccan, and Persian influences.

Come inside and discover the glorious things to see at Al Qassimi Palace: beautiful crystal chandeliers imported from Europe, the 12 astrological signs that adorn the walls, lavish marble floors, an indoor fountain, and lifelike murals of far-flung places. On the very top floor is a large glass pyramid structure that filters sunlight to illuminate the floors below.

The mystery of the palace continues with its rather unusual collection of marble statues, animal murals, antique artefacts, and paintings, all of which seem to be woven around stories of fiction.
