In the heart of the United Arab Emirates, a new wave of sustainable, clean beauty brands is emerging, marking a significant shift in the region’s beauty industry. From the bustling cityscapes of Dubai to the serene landscapes of Ras Al Khaimah, these brands are redefining what it means to be both luxurious and environmentally conscious.
Embracing sustainability principles, ethical sourcing, and clean formulations, these pioneering companies are not just creating beauty products. Still, they also champion a more responsible and mindful approach to skincare and cosmetics.
This article showcases some of the most notable sustainable clean beauty brands in the UAE, each with a unique story and commitment to positively impacting the planet and its inhabitants.
Sisters Nidhi and Rashi Sethi launched Skin Story in the United Arab Emirates. Their difficulties with skincare gave rise to this brand. Nidhi encountered difficulties locating items that matched her skin tone, while Rashi dealt with various reactions to different substances used in cosmetics. The two then set out to create the ideal line of cosmetic items.
Their combined efforts created three adaptable multi-sticks, Legacy, Bare, and Bold, each available in three different tones. These are made with various uses in mind.
Notably, all three products are formulated without talc, mineral oils, sulfates, parabens, and silicone.
Aesop is one rare brand specializing in skincare, body, and hair care. It has been dedicated to embracing sustainable practices from its early days. To minimize its carbon footprint, the brand meticulously chooses responsibly sourced ingredients. Their products are entirely vegan and never subjected to animal testing.
All the products are made from responsibly sourced ingredients; none are animal-derived. Even industry favorites like beeswax, honey, and lanolin are absent from their labels, which ensures the vegan status of all the formulations.
Before use, every ingredient undergoes a rigorous evaluation by the Research & Development team. This meticulous process is consistently applied to both new and existing ingredients.
Aesop upholds the highest ethical and sustainable production standards in its manufacturing processes as it relies on renewable energy. The packaging predominantly comprises recycled plastic, and the glass bottles can be refilled at designated locations. This packaging element further contributes to the brand’s commitment to sustainability.
Upfill was established in 2021 by Mariam Khafagy. This novel brand emerged as a response to the deceptive claims often associated with conventional cosmetics and body care items. Guided by the ethos of “it’s cool to care,” Khafagy and her partner leveraged their chemical engineering, marketing, and entrepreneurship backgrounds.
While developing Upfill, they wanted to scrutinize the ingredients prevalent in many leading skin and body care brands.
They recognized that typical products contained only 10 percent active ingredients, with the majority comprising water (up to 70 percent), chemicals (up to 10 percent), and non-recyclable plastics (up to 10 percent). The duo decided to alter this ratio and bring sustainable beauty products.
After an extensive three-year product development, they successfully introduced a line of solid bar body and hair care products that prioritize water conservation, are vegan, and feature natural ingredients at their core.
They package all their products in refillable and recyclable tins. The products include solid body, shampoo, and face bars free from silicone, parabens, and sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS).
Tata Harper is a renowned natural skincare brand that incorporates non-toxic botanical ingredients. It embraces sustainability and takes pride in formulating high-performance, radiant formulas. They make sure their formulas prioritize the benefits of raw ingredients over unnecessary fillers to unlock their full potential and concentrated benefits.
They exclusively collaborate with suppliers holding certifications for organic or natural processes. These partners adhere to green chemistry practices, uphold human and animal welfare standards, and prioritize the conservation of biodiversity and the environment.
ONE THING focuses on individual ingredients and uses 100% pure plant-based extracts free from parabens, colorants, alcohol, and fragrance.
The brand believes in minimalism and retains only essential elements for the skin’s needs. ONE THING takes pride in sourcing locally collected ingredients and supports local communities. They always ensure the freshness and purity of the extracts.
Origins is a popular skincare brand in the Emirates, from Dubai to Ras Al Khaimah. It harnesses natural ingredients derived from plants and ensures all its products are vegetarian. Some of their skincare products are entirely vegan.
The brand actively contributes to the well-being of the ecosystem by utilizing renewable electricity. It also advocates for low-carbon emissions in its production processes. To restore the environment, Origins has initiated tree-planting programs.
At HARUHARU WONDER, the core of their brand lies in the dedication to creating efficient and environmentally conscious skincare. Their offerings harness the benefits of natural, plant-based ingredients backed by clinical evidence. They do not use toxic additives and chemicals that could harm your skin and the planet.
HARUHARU WONDER uses patented extracts from black rice and fermented bamboo shoot bark for their exceptional antioxidant properties. They bring out the best from these ingredients through a meticulous fermentation process. It helps in curating better products that can nurture and shield your skin.
Yet, there’s more to HARUHARU WONDER’s commitment to delivering impactful results. They take another step with their patented liposome technology, Ultra Deep Technology.
This innovative approach ensures that the active ingredients in their products undergo a fourfold reinforcement post-fermentation. This heightened strength enables them to deeply penetrate your skin and work their transformative effects precisely where it matters most.
The beauty landscape in the United Arab Emirates is transforming towards sustainability, and clean beauty brands are at the forefront of this change. Consumers in the UAE are increasingly turning to brands that prioritize sustainability, cruelty-free practices, and chemical-free formulations.
This shift towards conscious beauty aligns with global environmental concerns and caters to the growing awareness and demand for effective and environmentally responsible products in the UAE.
