It’s the final round of the Ras Al Khaimah Championship 2025. Everybody else’s scores are in. Marcus Armitage of England just holed a putt, ending his final round with a birdie and a four-under-par of 68.

The last remaining player on the green is making a second attempt to sink the ball into the 18th hole. He succeeds, logging a six-under to mark a final round of 66. Cheers erupt. A series of handshakes, backslaps, and hugs, and his team surrounds him on the green and sprays him with water.

This was the moment on January 26, 2025, when Alejandro Del Rey of Spain prevailed over the other pro golfers who joined the Ras Al Khaimah Championship 2025. It was Del Rey’s first-ever DP World Tour (i.e., European Tour) win, and he did it with three rounds of six-under 66, finishing the tournament at 22-under 266.

About the Ras Al Khaimah Championship

The Ras Al Khaimah Championship 2025 is one of the 42 tournaments to be played in 26 countries for the 2025 DP World Tour. It is part of the Global Swings leg, particularly the eight-event International Swing that follows the Opening Swing and precedes the Asian Swing.

The Ras Al Khaimah Championship used to be part of the European Challenge Tour, but it was upgraded to DP World Tour event status in 2022. Since then, it has been a regular part of the DP World Tour calendar, crowning Nicolai Højgaard, Daniel Gavins, and Thorbjørn Olesen winners in 2022, 2023, and 2024, respectively.

Since its DP World Tour integration, the Ras Al Khaimah Championship has always been played at Al Hamra Golf Club, one of the best golf courses in Ras Al Khaimah. This 18-hole, par-72 championship golf course was designed by Swiss architect Peter Harradine.

The 7,235-yard (6,698-meter) golf course has generous fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and challenging water hazards, including one that runs the entire length of par-five 18th, from the tee to the home green.

Note: Al Hamra is one of the emirate’s top leisure destinations and home to some of the best Ras Al Khaimah hotels and resorts. If you’re in Al Hamra for the Ras Al Khaimah Championship or Ras Al Khaimah Classic, you can stay at The Ritz-Carlton Ras Al Khaimah, Sofitel Al Hamra Beach Resort, Waldorf Astoria, or Al Hamra Village Hotel. Sofitel Al Hamra Beach and Al Hamra Village Hotel are adjacent to Al Hamra Golf Club.

As usual, the Ras Al Khaimah Championship 2025 was held at Al Hamra Golf Club. The tournament ran for four days, from January 23-26, 2025. It consisted of four rounds and had a tournament par of 288 and a purse of $2.5 million.

Alejandro Del Rey claimed EUR 406,373 (a little over $441,000). The remainder was distributed among the rest of the players on the leaderboard. Armitage, in second place, got EUR 262,947.58 (about $285,910), while the tied players in eighth place took home a little over EUR 49,000 (approximately $53,000).

Alejandro Del Rey’s Ras Al Khaimah Championship 2025 Run

Alejandro Del Rey’s victory made the Ras Al Khaimah Championship 2025 a tournament to remember.

Alejandro Del Rey is a 27-year-old professional golfer from Madrid, Spain. He turned professional in 2020, played in France, and claimed the Open de la Mirabelle d’Or title of the 2020 Alps Tour. In 2022, he participated in and won the Big Green Egg German Challenge at Neuburg an der Donau, Germany, of the 2022 HotelPlanner Tour.

He started at rank 193 on the DP World Tour leaderboard in 2021. This year, he is up 181 places and, after six tournaments so far this season, is now in 12th place.

Alejandro Del Rey had an eventful run at the 2025 Ras Al Khaimah Championship. At the end of the first round on day one, he logged six birdies and two bogeys (in the sixth and 12th) and ended in fifth place with a four-under 68.

On the second day, he showed exceptional consistency with eight birdies for a six-under 66, albeit with two bogeys in the eighth and ninth holes. He tied with Daniel Brown in second place and was two short of Armitage’s cumulative 12-under par.

On 25 January, the second-to-last day of the tournament, he hit only three fairways but still managed to be six under.  His winning streak continued the following day.

For each of the final two days and last two rounds of the tournament, Del Rey recorded six birdies, zero bogeys, and six shots under par at 66. This put him at 22-under tournament par (266), which sent him straight to the top of the leaderboard to win the Ras Al Khaimah Championship 2025 trophy.

Look Forward to the 2026 Ras Al Khaimah Championship

The Ras Al Khaimah Championship 2025 was an exhilarating four-day tournament with a hefty purse, excellent players, and a particularly impressive performance from Alejandro Del Rey.

We can’t wait to see what’s in store for Del Rey for the rest of the season and who’s taking home the 2025 DP World Tour Championship trophy. Of course, we’re also excited for next year’s Ras Al Khaimah Championship.
