Visit Ras Al Khaimah

Ras Al Khaimah has one of the most diverse landscapes in the United Arab Emirates. The Hajar mountains stand tall against the terracotta desert, while fertile plains give way to the pristine beaches and mangrove forests that dot the emirate’s 68-kilometer coastline.

Indeed, the natural environment is a tremendous part of Ras Al Khaimah’s unique beauty and identity, and the emirate is committed to preserving it through various greening and  sustainable living initiatives. One such strategy is the construction of more public parks, such as the Al Riffa Park in Ras Al Khaimah.

About the Al Riffa Ras Al Khaimah Park Project

Ras Al Khaimah’s sustainable living and greening plans include building seven public parks. The goal is to provide residents with more accessible green spaces where they can enjoy nature with their families.

Construction is now ongoing for three of the seven parks, including Al Riffa Park. The rest are in their planning stages.

Al Riffa Park in Ras Al Khaimah is being built in Al Riffa’s old residential area. This UAE park will occupy an area of 720,374 ft2 (nearly 67,000 m2). More than 70% of this (over 504,000 ft2 or 46,800 m2) will be landscaped spaces.

Al Riffa Park’s construction began in May 2025. It is set to open by the end of this year (2025), at which time the park’s plants and trees will have had sufficient time to take root.

What to Expect From Al Riffa Park, Ras Al Khaimah

Al Riffa Park in Ras Al Khaimah will become one of the emirate’s major public parks. It will have the following sustainability features:

  • More than 20,000 m2 (more than 215,000 ft2) of green spaces
  • Every ghaf tree already existing on site preserved
  • The use of native tree species, such as neem and sidr (aside from ghaf), to provide shade
  • An irrigation system (supported by the Al Riffa treatment plant), including a 1.5-km water pipeline that will deliver about 150 m3 of water every 24 hours

Al Riffa Park is expected to become a favorite among families because of its many family-oriented facilities and amenities, including:

  • A central, landscaped hill to serve as a natural viewpoint for parkgoers
  • Shaded seating areas
  • Paths, ramps, and access routes
  • Evening lighting
  • Children’s playgrounds and play areas
  • Outdoor gyms
  • Sandy courts for beach volleyball
  • A multi-purpose court with rubber flooring for basketball, tennis, and football
  • Skate park
  • Jogging trails
  • Areas for food trucks
  • Retail outlets
  • A mini-market for local entrepreneurs
  • Four prayer rooms
  • Restrooms
  • Car park for around 100 vehicles
  • Six electric vehicle charging stations

Al Riffa Park is expected to become a gorgeous green spot in the city, bordered by a green belt of native-species trees. Inside, it will offer cool shade and a ready connection to nature to whoever wants or needs it.

The park will be open to everyone, not only to Al Riffa residents, and admission will be free of charge. The wealth of features, services, and activities available is designed to attract and engage Ras Al Khaimah’s families.

You can just imagine them now. Younger children can enjoy the fenced playgrounds, as their parents chat and look on. Teenagers and young adults can meet for outdoor activities, for instance, to skate or play volleyball, basketball, tennis, or football. The rest of the parkgoers can jog, while the laidback and the elderly can exercise with a leisurely walk along the shaded tracks.

When hunger calls, families can stroll towards the food trucks for some snacks. They can browse through the merchandise displayed in local sellers’ booths and retail shops. When the call to prayer strikes, everyone can seek the peace of the prayer rooms.

Over time, the trees and plants at the park will mature, and their foliage will grow thicker. The park’s ecosystem will also become more diverse and vibrant. This Ras Al Khaimah park is, thus, expected to develop into one of the best parks in the community, offering families a green, cool, and welcoming space for leisure, recreation, and relaxation.

Why Green Spaces Are Essential

Parks are excellent places to visit in Ras Al Khaimah. Aside from providing a place for community members to gather, these green spaces serve other functions.

Cooling and Shading

Parks with green cover become more essential in times of rapid urbanization. As new buildings of steel and concrete are erected, residential and commercial complexes are constructed, and roads are built, cities can become hotter, turning into urban heat islands.

Trees, shrubs, grass, and all types of vegetation can help counter this. They use the heat in the surrounding air to evaporate water through their leaves in a process known as evapotranspiration. They also directly provide shade. Through evapotranspiration and shading, plants can help lower the surface and air temperatures in urban communities.

Pollution Absorption

The leaves of trees can trap airborne pollutants from industrial and other activities, as well as from vehicular emissions. Trees and plants can significantly help purify the air and improve air quality, and they can also shield us from light and noise pollution.

Biodiversity

The mere presence of plants and trees, especially native species like ghaf, neem, and sidr, promotes biodiversity. The vegetation provides food and shelter for insects, birds, and other animals. This enables a thriving ecosystem that can support both plant and animal life.

Quality of Life

In 1984, biologist Edward O. Wilson proposed the biophilia hypothesis, which says humans have an innate, genetically coded need to find and connect with nature and other life forms.

Parks help satisfy our need to be close to nature. Studies also show that interacting with nature can slow down heart rates and lower blood pressure.

Look Forward to the Opening of Al Riffa Park

Al Riffa Park, once completed, will become one of Ras Al Khaimah’s major parks. It will be a center of rest and relaxation, a venue for sports and family bonding, and a place where the elderly can stroll and younger children can play safely. Likewise, it can shield us against urban heat and pollution, serve as a safe space for small animals and mammals, and provide everyone with a readily accessible way to interact and connect with nature.

We’re sure visiting Al Riffa Park will become one of the top things to do in Ras Al Khaimah for the emirate’s residents and visitors. See you all at Al Riffa Park in Ras Al Khaimah when it opens!
