In Ras Al Khaimah, nature provides incredible opportunities for adventure. As the home of Jebel Jais, the highest mountain in the UAE, and the Hajar mountain range, Ras Al Khaimah is the premier destination for adventure travel in the UAE.

Find out more about how you can get involved in rock climbing and other adventures when you visit Ras Al Khaimah here.

What Is Rock Climbing

Rock climbing is a fast-growing sport, particularly since it was included in the Olympics for the first time in Tokyo in 2020. It’s great for building strength and stamina, but above all, it’s a lot of adrenaline-fueled fun.

Outdoor rock climbing is a great way to connect with nature. It involves scaling a natural rock face using ropes and other specialist rock climbing equipment. To take part in this exhilarating sport, you’ll need to head out into the Hajar mountains.

Indoor rock climbing walls simulate the conditions of a mountainside. Artificial rock climbing walls create challenges with vertical faces and overhangs. Ropes and equipment are provided.

In Ras Al Khaimah, specialist providers based in the dramatic Hajar mountain range provide great access to outdoor rock climbing with a variety of beginner’s courses, retreats and experiences.

Adventure Quest

Adventure Quest can introduce you to outdoor rock climbing on their full-day beginner’s course led by experienced instructors. They also offer short courses for those with a little experience to take their climbing to the next level.

Adventure Quest will take you to one of six crags to show the ropes. Cleavage is a popular spot in one of the most dramatic canyons in the UAE. Its base is great for rock climbing for kids and families. Wadi Hub is a good starting point for beginners, too. It’s just a short drive away in Fujairah.

Why not also explore Adventure Quest’s deep water solo courses? Deep water solo involves rock climbing without ropes above the sea, so if you fall, you just get wet. A speed boat or dhow will take you out to between two and four sites, and kayaking, paddle boarding and snorkeling are included in the day, too.

Climbing and abseiling courses at Bear Gryll’s Explorers Camp are 1.5 hours and are suited to all levels of experience. Or why not try Via Ferrata? This is where hiking meets climbing, and it involves climbing and traversing the mountainside while attached to steel cables for safety. Wire bridges and ziplines are included in the route for extra adrenalin.

Bear Gryll’s Explorers Camp is the perfect base for adventure seekers and it offers a wide range of experiences, including archery, rifle shooting, and Jais Ropes Course – an obstacle maze that floats 10 metres above the ground.
