Head to the mountains

Soaring to a height of almost 2,000 metres above sea level, Ras Al Khaimah’s world-famous Hajar Mountains are typically 5-10 degrees centigrade cooler during summer than elsewhere in the Emirates. This alone provides the perfect excuse to hit Jebel Jais, even during the height of summer.

Home to adrenalin-pumping attractions including Jais Flight – the world’s longest zipline that propels passengers at speeds of up to 160km/h – the Bear Grylls Explorers Camp and the Jais Sledder, Jebel Jais is the region’s top destination for outdoor enthusiasts.

Afterwards, head to the nearby 1484 by Puro – the UAE’s highest restaurant situated 1,484 metres above sea level – to enjoy a refreshing drink or delicious meal, while taking in the incredible views of the Hajar Mountains and the canyons below.

Take a trip back in time

Head to The National Museum of Ras Al Khaimah to learn more about Ras Al Khaimah’s incredible heritage and culture. Housed in a traditional fort and boasting a host of air-conditioned exhibits, it’s the perfect place to grab some respite from the summer heat while learning more about the emirate’s incredible 7,000-year-old history.

The museum hosts an extensive collection of archaeological and ethnological artefacts, the majority of which have been sourced from the 1,000+ archaeological sites that have been uncovered across the Emirate.

As the sun sets and the afternoon heat dissipates, why not explore Al Jazeera Al Hamra, the historic pearling village that is also a prospective UNESCO World Heritage site. This open-air museum features a host of ancient dwellings located inside a well-preserved fort, including a mosque, souq and extensive courtyard – all of which are testament to ancient Arabic architecture and design.

Enjoy some retail therapy

Cool off and enjoy some retail therapy by hitting one of Ras Al Khaimah’s world-class malls this summer.

Al Hamra Mall, one of the city’s most popular shopping destinations, boasts more than 130 specialty retail outlets, restaurants and a VOX Cinemas multiplex, which is equipped with a 20m-wide MAX screen featuring state-of-the-art Dolby Atmos surround sound and crisp digital imagery with laser projection, delivering a cutting-edge cinema experience.

With more than 120 retail outlets, including high street fashion brands, a department store and a vast Carrefour supermarket, Manar Mall is another perennial favourite. For film buffs, the mall is home to Novo Cinema, one of the UAE’s most hi-tech multiplexes. In addition to Novo 3D, 7-star and IMAX theatre options, the cinema’s headline act is undoubtedly its immersive MX4D® Motion EFX Theatre, which enables moviegoers to feel built-in motion from their MX4D® theatre seat, in addition to wind, water and scent effects.

In the heart of the city lies Al Naeem Mall, a vibrant shopping destination that is home to high-end brands, boutique outlets, technology and telecommunications stores, supermarkets, home stores and various international dining facilities.

Located on Khuzam Road in the Al Qurm district of Ras Al Khaimah, RAK Mall features more than 30 specialty retail stores and an array of leisure facilities, including a climbing wall, mini bowling alley, ice rink, indoor go-karting centre, football academy, 5D cinema, billiards, dexterity games and video games.

Grab a bite to eat

For an authentic taste of the Levant, head to Kibba Wa Tabbola. Located in Al Dhait South close to Centrepoint Mall, the restaurant serves up delicious and traditional Arabic fare in a relaxed and cosy environment. It also boasts an onsite souq where you can sample or take home the freshest local ingredients.

Award-winning café Typica UAE is another great option to grab your caffeine fix or to enjoy a delicious brunch or lunch this summer. Located off Sheikh Mohamed Bin Salem Rd in Khalifa Bin Zayed City, this fun and funky café is a great place to take some time out and escape the midday heat with a fresh brew or iced concoction.

Conveniently located close to the American University of Ras Al Khaimah, Peru Café serves up the freshest breakfasts, brunch, coffee and cooling iced drinks all summer. Open ‘till midnight each night, it’s also a fantastic place to grab a late-night bite. Don’t forget to order a slice of the Peru Pistachio Cheesecake!

If you are heading to Corniche Al Qawasim, be sure to make a pitstop at Space Café. This high-end specialty coffee house, which is located adjacent to Downtown Ras Al Khaimah’s popular jogging trail, offers a vast selection of specially brewed coffees and cold beverages including frappes, juices, mocktails and iced teas. A weekend hotspot, the café also boasts an extensive all-day dining menu featuring Italian and Arabic-inspired pizzas, fresh salads, pasta and risotto, and delicious desserts.
