Ashuk Ice Cream

Almost 50 years ago, Mohammed Ashiq landed on the shores of Ras Al Khaimah as a fitter. But with his fighting entrepreneurial spirit, he raised enough funds to invest in a camera and sold photographs to visiting tourists. His first foray into the food and beverage industry was the then fashionable slushies. Mohammed rented a down-at-heel shack in Ras Al Khaimah’s creek and sold Vimto and Tang flavoured drinks. Fast forward to 1982, he purchased his first ice cream machine. The rest, as they say, is history. An ice cream entrepreneur was born.

Thousands, if not millions of pink and white ice creams later, he’s the proud owner of the best ice cream shop in town. Try the enormous towering sundae of mango, pomegranate and apple topped with crushed pistachios and strawberry syrup. This signature ice cream is a tribute to his ancestors; his father ran a kulfi cart, and his grandfather was a fruit vendor in Pakistan. Hoards of visitors visit Ashuk’s every day; the locals beep their horns and are served in a makeshift ‘drive-thru’.
